The theme for the year 2019 was ALCHEMY - the seemingly magical process of taking something with little or no value and transforming it into something of value. The objective for the exhibit was to create clothing that would be visually appealing to the viewer first, before it became apparent that the garment was made or embellished with repurposed materials. The great challenge to the students was to design and execute clothing that despite being made with unusual components, would still be somewhat wearable.
For the school’s 2018 exhibition, work centered around the theme “LARO” (PLAY), inspiring students to explore a playful take on fashion, with sources of inspiration such as childhood games, board games, toys and video games.
For this year’s exhibition, Slim’s students took inspiration from the work of the school’s founder, couture designer Salvacion Lim Higgins (‘Slim’), to celebrate the launch of an Education Fund in her name.
